You may think that in the story of Jesus it was his choice die for the benefit of all mankind and that in the story he rose from the dead to live forever after momentary suffering in comparison.
Do you think a parent of a child should be willing to die for the sake of that child if in danger ?
But why couldn't your god negate the danger without the sacrifice?
Why not just forgive humanity without torturing his son (which is also himself)?
Was he unable to do so?
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
