They're religious.... so long as it doesn't interfere with their chosen way of life.
They believe in the Bible - or at least the parts that don't require them to do anything in particular. Or,
the parts that don't contradict what they want to believe about CHRISTIANITY. Most have not even
read it. That baffles me, since if you are going to base your life on a book, and believe your afterlife
throughout eternity depends on adhering to that book, why don't they bother to read the darned thing?
Their idea of "Christianity" is more "Churchianity". They read them the nice, feel-good parts of the
Bible about how God "loves" them - and ignore all of the places where He just arbitrarily kills
everybody. Or the more absurd laws in the Old Testament that they say don't apply. Or the justifications
for slavery that exist in the New Testament as well as the old. For many, church is a place to meet
people that share the same prejudices. It's a place to have someone tell you what to believe. It's a place
to give your money so that you can feel that you've "bought" your place in heaven.
