OK, after some in-depth research I think I've found the answer.
The news accounts are 99% BS and fake news intended to create mass hysteria.
Trump did sign the EO, "Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States" on January 27, 2017.
Obama and Congress had previously identified the seven countries of concern on December 18, 2015, when he signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2016, which included the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015. Those seven countries are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. That's why none of the countries Trump did business in is on the list. Obama didn't regard them as a concern.
Now in Trump's EO the only country mentioned by name is Syria. He referred to the list that Obama had previously identified.
Under the Act if a citizen from a VWP program country, say England or South Korea, had been in one of those countries on concern that person had to get a visa before visiting the US. The people in the countries of concern always had to have a visa.
Trump's EO now bars those people from the seven countries that Obama had identified until they are more thoroughly "vetted". When they are they might get a visa. However, if it's determined that they have bad behavior (such as doing a honor killing or car bombing) they won't get a visa.
Trump's EO also suspends the plan to import 50,000 Syrian refugees at this time because it's not in our national interest.
