Because they were floating a trial balloon, administering a loyalty test, and distracting the public from the coup d'etat on the National Security Council, all at the same time.
Personally, I think all of the people underestimating the administration are being foolish. Watch what's happening while these distractions are going on.
This. This administration is a LOT more clever than what we're giving them credit for. We are falling for the "look over there" gambit hook, line, and sinker. People getting worked up for good reason about the Muslim Ban, meanwhile he is gutting the AG's office and kicking the Director of National Intelligence and the fucking JCS off of the National Security Counsel and installing the CEO of a right wing Nationalism rag to the Principals Committee.
To repeat: the CEO of Breitbart is the leading member of the leading council of our National Security Counsel, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (the civilian in charge of the military) can attend when invited.
The ban on Muslim immigrants is extremely important, but this is much, much bigger.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
