The scare quotes are there for a reason, ya know.

Many may have been stoned to death by an atheist but absolutely no one has ever been 'stoned to death' by an atheist.

I think you don't understand the whole purpose of the scare quotes.

I suppose you are correct in a way, but you could argue that it is the person committing the violent or terrorist act that is deadly not religious ideas themselves, no?

It's the other way around when the motive for killing is the religious ideas.
