Agnostic: How do you know it won’t fly into the air if you drop it one more time?
Theist: My god can make the penny fly into the air the next time you drop it. But don’t actually try it. Thou shalt not tempt the lord thy god.
Deist: Yes, there’s something making that penny drop.
Now, what might an atheist say?
Can't really speak for an atheist, it's an insufficient label that doesn't prevent you from believing in other woo. To be fair you'd also ask what would a rational skeptic say. Which, in that case...
"Well, I seem to be sticking the ground myself without flying off into space and I've never experienced any lapse in whatever force is keeping me grounded so it does not appear to fluctuate in either strength or consistency, ergo there's no justifiable reason to believe anything in a solid state is able to remain suspended indefinitely, at least within the atmosphere of a planetary mass. But there are still questions and facets to explore and I shall happily do so as I have an endless thirst for knowledge and get a deep fulfillment from experimenting and learning and improving my understanding, discarding failed hypotheses and revising my opinion about whatever I've been convinced of if new evidence is compelling enough. Even if there was a supernatural component behind these things, by its nature it is impossible to investigate and is therefore irrelevant."
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
