Taking advantage of people isn't limited to sociopathy, nor is it the most relevant or indicative component of NPD. What a person with NPD wants or gets from some other person can be so subtle or seemingly inconsequential to whomever they are extracting it from as to not be interpreted as taking advantage at all. Honestly, that's the most successful manifestation of the disorder, basically a measure of which are high functioning and so go under the radar, so to speak, and those which aren't, and fall to diagnosis.
All I'm saying, is that being a smarmy irritant who takes advantage of people isn't enough to conclude that someone has NPD, or is somehow..meaningfully, a sociopath. We can reserve those terms for reps that fit the description, I think....and still call the man an asshole, lol.
