So? It was till based on the "divine right of kings". It is the same reason Christians and Muslims and Jews all still claim the same plot of Mesopotamia today. It is about land, no kidding, because each respective's sky heros told their followers they had rights to the land.

But you are right, that was 1,000 years ago, with people using the same bronze age morality of the book you read today, so get a clue, why would you still value that old book? But it did guide them in that brutality and to claim it did not is absurd. It guided them in that brutality in the same way you accept that ISIS uses the Koran today.
