To me, it doesn’t seem like that much to get all worked up about, and may very well be what it seems (a nice gesture).
Pence has supported anti-LGBT legislation and conversion therapy. These actions and his homophobic rants are a matter of public record. No LGBT+ person should ever consider him anything other than evil incarnate until he stands up and publicly recants his previous positions.
