The objection of no teachers holding guns is based on the unspoken understanding that the risk posed by 'mass shooting at school' is very small.
But if we hypothetically knew for sure an unknown person was going to try and kill as many middle schoolers as possible at a specific school in Delaware, the solution would 100% include 'good guys with guns'.
Re don't cure Cancer with Aids....you cure Cancer with Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is really awful. But not as awful as dying of Cancer. Sometimes a bad thing is needed to prevent a worse thing. Again, it goes back to how big a threat mass school shootings actually are.
I don't think teachers should have guns. But I'm just guessing. If the frequency of the col/new/park type events went up, I think more extreme actions would have to be considered. But at this point, I think arming a bunch of teachers is an overreaction to an overreaction.
