I have to wonder what percentage of people trained in combat arms (military, police, etc) - particularly those who have seen the elephant - think this is a good idea.

Indoors? I'd take the handgun, with an extra clip. If the bad guy's piece is set for "rock and roll" I won't need the extra clip.
