Come on Pope would never say that because he would lose many customers who would then go to churches that preach Hell. Keep in mind that the biggest pleasure for Christians is thinking who is going to Hell and who is not. They like to gather in their hideouts with bags of hard candy and fantasize about individuals who are going to Hell while they're be spared in heaven and watching them suffer below.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
