The Vaticans response sounds like total BS, denying that an interview even took place. I'm not surprised at all to find out that the Pope may have said there is no hell. He's always saying similar things, like atheists can be redeemed by doing good, or "who am I to judge the gays?" Maybe the Pope said it to try to make everyone happy. Those who are against the idea of hell will like him more, and he has plausible deniability for those who want to believe that the Pope still believes in hell. Maybe that's why he chose to say it in an interview that was not being recorded.
