And Luke's attempt at murdering Ben was a split second impulse . Much like the one he had against Vader on the second Death Star.And he admits he immediately regretted it. Luke may be Jedi master but he's still only human and it's not like he's the first or only Jedi to circum to a momentary lapse in judgement .
It wasn't split second. He decided, in his room, that he needed to go kill someone in his sleep that hadn't committed any crimes, went to his room, charged up his lightsaber, and held it while contemplating what he was about to do. Yeah, he changed his mind, but he actually considered doing it for way too long. And this is supposed to be a sympathetic good guy.
