It's pretty silly.
I'm "left" simply by virtue of the U.S.'s utterly skewed understanding of what Left and Right actually mean. In any country not hamstrung by our laughably narrow bandwidth of politically acceptable options, I would be considered center-right, with a libertarian's attitude on most social issues. And my attitude didn't form "all of a sudden".
Negotiate, by all means! But walk away with something in exchange for what you're willing to foreswear. North Korea obviously got a couple of things they wanted. What exactly did we get out of this meeting, other than the same meaningless assurances we've received in the past?
My opinion, is that a deescalation of military tension is in both country's interests, and the interests of future diplomacy. And it comes at no cost to the US. Those seem like the best concessions to give, no?
It's not like the US can't still destroy NK if that action was called for. It's purely about posture.
