Largely, downey was perceived as playing a meta-minstrel show. His character was a jab at ridiculous method acting (as stiller's character was a jab at people who butcher disabled roles in pursuit of awards.)
What's the point, though? Appealing to hypocrisy, if successful, could only prove that both items were meaningfully racist or meaningfully offensive. I think they were probably aiming for offensive, though, so I don't know if that serves as competent criticism or it's just a roundabout way of saying job well done.
