Usually, this just isn't reported to law enforcement or counselors, and the shooters don;t have any routine contact and relationship with the sorts of sympathetic ears that might recognize it and..either steer them to a more healthy mindset, or report it to authorities themselves.
Wouldn;t catch them all, but well never catch them all. Still - if we're looking at ways to reduce gun deaths. Mental health holds the biggest chunk of the gun death pie.
