I hope I pissed that lady off to the point she, nor anyone else from that church come to my house again. Not a matter of hating human rights, just a matter of anyone bugging me at my door trying to sell me anything.
"Excommunicated" is simply a superstitious word to mean the group you are in has "ostracized" you. But that isn't a patent owned by any one religion. Humans group, we always have, but some families and or sects will cut off ties to someone who breaks from the social norms of that given society/family.
You can find this behavior in every religion to greater or lesser degrees worldwide.
It shows itself far more in conservative interpretations, even in Jews and Asia and India.
