I kind of figured your idea of an open border was limited to nutter talking points.
There are open borders between us states, and European states. That doesn’t mean that there are no restrictions or documentation ( and it doesn’t make people immigrants or citizens of the respective states crossing them, either).
None of this factual state of affairs in actual reality makes them “not open borders”.
Fun fact, the most ardent supporters of open borders between the US and Mexico..were pro capitalist conservatives.
For most of American history, the border actually has been operated as de facto or de jure open.
