Nobody is denying racism is real even with that. Racism most certainly is real.
There are certainly social and economic differences and unfortunately in America two sets of different rules for blacks and whites. I don't have to worry about being murdered by cops while interacting with them over a traffic violation. I don't have to worry about being shot by street vigilanties for walking down the street.
I don't have to worry about being assaulted for for being Asian and wearing a mask. I don't have to worry about ICE showing up and deporting me. I am white and have long since accepted that I don't have to worry about the fears blacks and other minorities face on a daily basis.
I never said anyone was denying that racism exists. I’m saying that objecting to using the term ‘race’ as a reference to different groups of people is a sneaky, underhanded way to not talk about racism.
What else are we going to call the people marked by differences in melanin content and facial features? ‘Tribe’ is too broad and ‘ethnicity’ is inaccurate, as is ‘variety’. ‘Breed’ would be pretty good, but I have serious doubts that it would catch on.
When I say ‘race’, ‘racism’ or ‘racist’, everyone knows what I mean. The attempts to delegitimize the word is an attempt to delegitimize the conversation.
