Why stop there. He'd have had more of a leg to stand on if he shot the people taping him and every other witness as well. The shellshocked survivor of some insane one off event where thirty people just happened to be gunned down is more plausible than denying a murder captured in real time on video.
That's pretty much the first rule of violent crime. Leave no witnesses, and only your side of the story to tell.
"I was attempting to detain the suspect, who was resisting, when I was rushed by the crowd."
I'm entirely certain that we could find a jury who would refuse to entertain the notion that a cop murdered onlookers in cold blood in broad daylight on account of it being simply too crazy...and yet.....
