I get annoyed all the time with equation of guns with seatbelts, when it's more in line with armor (in this case ballistic vests) and seatbelts.

I prefer to compare them to a life jacket or a parachute

The point, as I see it, is that a ballistics vests stated purpose is to be a measure in case someone shoots you in the torso - in the same manner a seatbelts stated purpose is to ameliorate, although in a limited fashion, a vehicle collision when applied.

Both, gun wounds and vehicle collisions, without ballistics vests and seatbelts, then you're more likely fucked ... severity of circumstances notwithstanding.
