The police misrepresented things. The media just went along with their version of events because...fuck, it's not like the cops are liars..... right?

Sounds like you're referring to a criminal gang. I'm under the impression that we expect a different service from police. If they can't do that, and just absolutely positively -will- be a criminal gang instead...sounds like a letter of resignation. I appreciate the honesty of the position, if that's their position - just as much as I'd like for the kid behind the counter to tell me he has doubts about his ability to put pickles and lettuce on my burger before I pay for one.
Maybe those cops would be better at a job like that? Whole lot less opportunity to mace a nine year old, for sure.
