In fact, lets apply some of that collective responsibility we're so keen to employ on the parents, shall we? Who else might be culpable for the police acting in this way. For an officer to hold, however briefly, the notion that they could mace a nine year old and walk? Who else might my strong distaste for child abduction and abandonment of duty extend to, as a consequence of their facilitating just such a reality?
Oh, that'd be you, wouldn't it OLB? You're the fucking reason that cops maced the girl - it makes as much, and probably more, sense than your own dumpster fire of a position. The cops themselves are let down, but not by the brutality of society as some comment on the never-changing reality of the universe. It's you. Your insistence. Your excuses. Your assent. Your seething contempt.
If we really wanted to go down the rabbit hole, we can understand actual human beings who aren't bears or rattlesnakes or robots or gravity doing something that doesn't reflect their best or truest self as a product of an institution.
Ironically, an assessment that damns the institution is the only way that the individuals can be rehabilitated as actual people (and I know how much rehabilitation of virtue and value means to your lot). Bad apples and jackboots like gravity can suck a dick. When good apples do bad things, we have an issue, we have something that does require some explanation.. some solution. I doubt that many cops dream of being cops because they want to kick the living shit out of people, and I doubt that many cops wake up gleefully anticipating the moment they get to mace a nine year old girl.
...and yet...
