Sure, maybe spending some cash on militarized police reduces some crime....a small amount, but the worst shit imaginable. Meanwhile, spending far less on other shit reduces a whole hell of alot more misery. I'd say that this is because most criminals...no matter what criminal enterprise they bank on, aren't invested in the anti-apc market. They're trying to sell baggies of dust. The product doesn't qualify for serious counter-enforcement spending.
I think that's going to change, fwiw. We have a whole generation of ex soldiers in poverty. We think we've seen crime, but we haven't seen crime, not yet. When a hay-ron syndicate pulls a bell jet ranger out of the sky with unaccounted for STA disposables on the grey market like it's just another tuesday.......
Just like the last boom in crime in the 50's and 60's - we'll be dealing with people who've been trained on top-of-shelf...off-shelf weapon systems, with no other way to make their nut. Large amounts of people trained by the us military in the absence of war has...historically, been a boon for organized crime in the us. Civilization follows the sun.
