Republicans have consistently messaged over the last few decades that government involvement is a negative.
And yet, many Republicans (or at least, conservatives) seem to have no problem voting in favour of government stepping in to bail out large corporations. I don’t always disagree with such actions, it just seems hypocritical to decry governmental activism while voting for governmental activism.

Right. That's why their balls should be held to the fan. But it's not going to happen in a country filled with a Ragged-Dick mythos of bootstraps and gumption.
But this is not a new angle for the Republicans. They only continue finding new sucke -- er, fish -- er, voters -- that's the ticket! -- who buy into the claptrap of "small government for you is good, big government for my donors is good."
