Want effective gun control?
Better start building now.
You will need more prisons. And hospitals.
......
Do you really think that any gun law you pass is going to work - without repercussions? Dream on.
.....
Here is what will happen ----
We will get another "assault weapon ban" - which will end up being just a restriction of sales. Some states will probably require current owners to register their semi-auto rifles that cosmetically resemble military weapons. (furthermore known as Scary Looking Guns - or accronym SLG) Many states will not.
Another school shooting will occur - with a SLG that was sold pre- ban. The "gun control" people will wail that it's all those states that don't have registration that are responsible. A few more states will pass registration requirements. Many states still will not.
Another school shooting will occur - with another SLG - ect, ect..... This will go on for quite some time - until they decide that banning OWNERSHIP of these weapons is required.
......
How do you think that's going to go????
Ask Dianne Feinstein. See how honest she is. You probably don't remember her as mayor of San Francisco in the early 1980s. She enacted a ban of handguns in the city of San Francisco - and required voluntary turn in of all weapons. (this was ruled unconstitutional by California courts) In SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA -- not some republican stronghold like Texas -- but in liberal California ---- how many guns do you suppose got turned in????
Try finding official results. I can't find any. I know what I heard on the local news (I lived in Marin County - on the north side of the Bay at the time) They reported THREE handguns were turned in. Three. Got that???? In a bastion of liberal values -- three guns got turned in.
......
Think the guys in Montana, Texas or North Dakota are going to go along with a ownership ban on SLGs???
You will have to take them by force.
Hence - the need for more prisons and hospitals. I'm betting taking scary looking guns away from pissed off people is harder than you'd think.
.....
So - have fun with that "gun control"....
