A good point, and it touches on why we find ourselves where we do far beyond smart guns alone.
Had the people who turned guns (..and so much else....)into a kingmaking wedge issue not groomed their base into ludicrous positions, to better exploit those people at the behest of those politicians owners, we would not be here in the first place. It's entirely likely that dumb guns, like dumb phones, would be a relic of the past we can't imagine having had to suffer through.
As it stands, sadly, we've sacrificed american innovation and american lives on the altar of the bloodgod.
