Physically and mentally, I'm no longer Catholic (As I don't attend church. Nor do I believe in the Catholic Church's teachings).
However, for political reasons (which I don't want to get into), I want to become officially non-Catholic. I don't like the idea that the Catholic Church still technically claims me (and makes it difficult to impossible to officially leave)
I did a little Googling around. Apparently, the Church has made it more difficult to officially leave its rolls. Imagine that. They don't want to lower their numbers.
It really is amazing. You're right, they don't want to lower their numbers.
Yet one of the posters shared a story of a Catholic family having to give a church back-pay (the family had stopped giving weekly donations) in order to get a funeral for a relative.
The church won't let you officially leave. Yet they have no qualms about swindling you if you've been a "bad Catholic"
