Pretty handy 'get out of jail free' card.
No one said get out of jail. If a dog bites someone, we still put it down, regardless of whether it had a moral responsibility not to bite them. We shouldn't put humans down, but if they do harm legally, they need kept away from society. Legally insane people are put in an asylum because they didn't know any better. Sane people may "know better", but knowing better is not something that would consciously stop us from doing something bad. We are governed by cause and effect. We are not the one creature that can rise above that reality of the universe. We are just part of the universe, made up of star dust. We are not special or different from other animals when it comes to cause and effect. There is no ghost in the machine consciously making decisions. They're all made unconsciously. Free will is a fantastical religious idea, and and fantastical ideas require extraordinary evidence. I see no evidence on your side. Experience is not evidence. It's an illusion.
