A great time to point out that our friend doesn't actually believe in magic book, he believes in science. Sure, sure, he appears to be a little touched and gets the science wrong..but it's only important for genesis to be a "flawless" overview of natural history if...were it not a flawless overview..he wouldn't believe in it anymore. His beliefs about science are informing his beliefs about god, not the other way around. Might want to get right with jesus. Hear he gets pretty touchy on the subject.
