Like lots of stuff in life. People find comfort in friendship, baking food, parties etc.
But in the end humans are tribal. With religion it puts a more ease on the mind, one can feel more relaxed in that sense. Its one of the places where people feel they belong together in a sense.
I understand why you might want to profess belief in something comforting. But actual belief? You're convinced for rational reasons. Maybe not actually rational but at least rational to you. Whereas you appear to be admitting an irrationality of belief. Which makes me question the genuineness of your belief.
