Like lots of stuff in life. People find comfort in friendship, baking food, parties etc.
But in the end humans are tribal. With religion it puts a more ease on the mind, one can feel more relaxed in that sense. Its one of the places where people feel they belong together in a sense.
God/Religion is a mental construct that many people find comfort in. If it works for you great. I've tried it and rejected it, basically because of what the religious do with the concept of god(s).
I'll find my own way without the need for an unchanging concept from antiquity. Humans use for it is waning, as it's flawed.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
