Consider, there were four generations from Joseph to Moses.
Quote:Ex 6:16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari:
Ex 6:18 And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel:
Ex 6:20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses:
So we go from Levi to Kohath to Amram to Moses. Four generations.
Population of the Jews in Egypt: 70.
Quote:Ex 1:5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
Population at the time of Exodus: 600 K males plus women and children.
Quote:Ex. 12:37 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.
Now let's assume a 1:1 ration of males to females. This means 1.2 M adult population. So the adult Jewish-Egyptian population by generation, assuming a steady population growth with each generation, went like this:
70
1.8 K
47 K
1.2 M
This means that every Jewish-Egyptian couple would need to have had 52 children each over the course of those four generations. This figure only makes sense if every Jewish-Egyptian woman from 14-40 was constantly pregnant with twins!
Now THAT was miracle!
May I ask how long you believe a generation to be?
Or if you prefer how long did Moses Live? How long did Joseph live?
How many wives did the average man take?
What was the average size of the Jewish family while in captivity of Egypt?
