The lunacy of the exodus tale is palpable to all but the dumbest of fundies and G-C is one of those. Before you worry too much about the rate of march you might try to give a little thought to the animals allegedly along for the walk. Sheep and goats graze with sheep preferring grass. This does not lead to a great deal of speed.
