Sorry to backtrack, but:
Pascal's Wager? Seriously? If you don't get why this is the single most pathetic argument for belief in a god, try this little experiment. Replace the word "God" in the above quote with "Allah", or "Zeus", or "Ahura Mazda" (here's a little list to choose from if you wish). Next, replace the word "atheist" with "xtian". Now read it back to yourself and see if it convinces you.
If that doesn't work, consider how many gods, goddesses, deities and demigods from the above list you would have to believe in - and we're talking genuine belief, not merely the pretence of belief which a god would see through in a heartbeat - simply in order to make sure you are backing the 'correct' one. That way madness lies.
