"Isaiah 40:22
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."
As far as I am aware, at no point in the Bible does it mention the Earth being a sphere, but of course if you can find the reference...
The Hebrew word is chugh (hhug), which can also mean spherical. Only a spherical object like a ball appears as a circle from every angle. Some translations read "the globe of the earth" (Douay Version) and "the round earth." - (Moffatt)
Some critics try and conclude that a circle can be flat but a flat disc would more often appear as an elipse rather than circular. Remember we are talking about how the Earth looked from God perspective from heaven.

If a science fiction book gets something scientifically correct that is then discovered to be true in reality later on, that doesn't mean the entire science fiction book is true! At least most of the rest of it probably is just that - science but, fiction!
Excellent point, EVF! I hadn't even thought of that! I love it when someone throws me a curve like that!
I would argue that with science fiction a fanciful probability is addressed that science later produces a practical solution to. However, if science fiction, for example, considered the possibility of spirit creatures (angels, seraphs, cherubs) in some form as a type of creature we are not presently familiar with - like many creatures in science fiction - and later these creatures were somehow discovered by science that would be a different thing altogether, perhaps ... you got my brain working with your point.
Consider some myths of the ocean in superstitious times - great squids that were thought to be myths and myths that sprang from reality and back again the huge amount of creatures wierd and fascinating lurking in the deep places of the earth ....
