" We've provided plenty of examples of blatent racsm from the right..."...you haven't shown anything except a few isolated instances....that's no proof the Republican Party is racist.
"...so why don't you show us an example of racism from the left?....
Quote:"U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin yesterday pledged not to use racially tinged attacks in his campaign for U.S. Senate but stopped short of repudiating fellow Maryland Democrats who have said such tactics are acceptable against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele because he is a black conservative Republican....Delegate Salima Siler Marriott, a black Baltimore Democrat, said Mr. Steele invites racially charged criticism — including labels such as “Oreo cookie” and “Uncle Tom” — because his conservative philosophy is anti-black, in her opinion."....
Quote:"One of the things about Herman Cain is, I think that he makes that white Republican base of the party feel okay, feel like they are not racist because they can like this guy," Finney said. "I think he giving that base a free pass. And I think they like him because they think he's a black man who knows his place. I know that's harsh, but that's how it sure seems to me."....
Quote:"Condoleezza Rice is the purest expression of the race traitor. No polite description is possible." Those kinds of attacks by blacks have emboldened guilt-ridden white liberals to join in as seen by the recent cartoons of Pat Oliphant and Garry Trudeau ("Doonesbury")....
One study has shown that some racism is pretty much divided evenly among both parties...
Quote:"It is true that there are more differences across party lines on policy questions such as on affirmative action, again with a mix in both parties but with more Republicans than Democrats opposing. I don’t consider these types of policy preferences to be grounds for calling someone a racist, however.
It is undeniable that some Americans are racist but racists split about evenly across the parties. No party has a monopoly on racists." http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalre...party.html
Most of your examples are of people calling certain black politician race-traitors for actions they've taken that go against the apparent best interest of the minority of which they are part. I would hardly call that racism. Clarence Thomas is a prime example of someone who wants to deny a level playing field to young black people. Whether you agree that reparations of some sort are due to the descendants of the people whose slave labor helped build the wealth of our nation, may or may not be based on racist views. But it is a completely separate question.
The mere fact that someone calls Thomas or Rice or Cain a name to indicate their disapproval of these politician's opposition to affirmative action is not an attack on them based on their race. It singles them out for acting against the perceived best interest of their race. If they were white politicians taking the same positions, they would be seen as no less selfish and unfair .. they just wouldn't be doing it to their own race.
Non-racist does not equal race blind. To claim race neutrality as your reason for not righting a historical injustice does not mean you are less racist than a person who supports affirmative action. To turn a blind eye to past injustices which underlie the advantages ones own racial group enjoys is racism. For someone of that race to do the same thing is a different kind of immoral act. To point that out is hardly racist.
