I agree that many religious people tend to be less open about matters dealing with sex and exhibit a greater amount of guilt/shame about it than the non-religious.
And we assign a much lower value/priority to sex because we have to be focusing more on things like nurturing our souls and God-awareness and stuff ...
Atheists, overall, seem to be more positive and encouraging about it.
However, I don't think that religious people consider sex itself as something bad or detestable. The only thing is that they (Christians and Muslims, specifically) have some extra conditions according to their religion regarding when to have sex, especially the rule "no sex before and outside of marriage." But, aside from that, I think it mostly depends on the individual.
I've also come across articles and studies which show that religious people have a higher fertility rate than the non-religious, though it sometimes varies from country to country.
