I have an irrational aversion to happy pills myself. It does seem to be more difficult to address an issue head-on rather than address the symptoms....but, I can only see an insistence on "addressing the issue" over all else if you have at least a marginally compelling reason to assume that you might be able to do so. If addressing the issue directly doesn't look promising, then why not address the symptoms in the meantime. Besides, nothing prevents you from addressing the issue after symptoms have been alleviated (and you may be much more capable of doing so if the burden of those symptoms weren't present). Don't get me wrong, I'm not insisting on happy pills, you could address the symptoms any way you like, take up a new hobby, go to the gym, find an easy female (or male), what-have-you.
