As far as I'm concerned, the Pope is merely shorthand for the head of any religious organisation and the entire hierarchy that put him there. Either they actually believe the product they endorse, making them delusional, or they don't and just pocket the money, in which case they are hypocrites. I don't know of any other organisation in which either of these states is a job requirement. Politics, perhaps, but politicians blatantly exhibiting either condition tend to have a short shelf life.
