I was interested to read that also, though I wish articles like this would emphasize that the behavior of extant non-human apes is not necessarily a good model for the behavior of human ancestors. The other apes have been following their own (non-teleological) evolutionary trajectories since the lineages diverged, and humans are not a goal or endpoint of evolution.
