how have i read it wrong?
Yes anyone can pick a handful of verses and justify something. But is that what the religion teaches? No. You don't take a handful of verses, you take the whole.
Yes you are. Would you like me to find Koran quotes that other people use to justify violence because I can and will find them.
It is called cherry picking, you do it, they do it, Christians and Jews do it with their books too. Which is why I said those three books of all three religions are ALL inherently divisive.
AND AGAIN I WILL REPEAT, so please stop ignoring this.
If those books were well written, to avoid confusion and conflict, we wouldn't have humanity so divided. The reason we do is because of the way god characters of all three are written(as literary characters). Which is why I say I would not hire such a god to write assembly instructions for a bicycle.
The plot of all those books is simple, "Follow me and defend me".
Don't read it with a hand up your back like a puppet, read everything in it, including the nasty stuff and don't gloss it over or pretend it does not exist in that book.
Cherry picking is the only way you can cling to such a nasty book. But all three are nasty and all three have a god who is all about him and sticks knives in human hands and says "last one standing gets to hang out with me".
The reason you cannot understand me is because you have already drank the Kool Aid. Read it all, as if you had never heard of Islam or picked up a Koran. Read it like you were doing a movie review. Read it as if you were not a Muslim.
I am quite sure you would already accept that people use the bible to justify both non violence and violence. I am merely suggesting to both of you you are not doing anything differently, you merely think you are.
'Read it as if you were not a muslim' he asks the ex-atheist. Yeah i did.
Lol i totally understand what your saying. I USE TO HAVE THE SAME VIEWPOINT.
Lol i think you have this assumption i just read random verses here and there. No brother. I read every verse with 9 translations and 3 tafsirs. Then challenge every single verse. And i haven't found a single bad thing yet.*Actually only bad thing that could be argued is the use of capital punishment and it's viewpoints on sodomy.
lol cherry picking? do you really think the Qur'an is like 99% kill people. 1% be nice. And ive ignored the rest?
