The effect may be the same, but the way it comes about may be a lie or they may be hallucinating and got lucky that everything that does work works. No, it's not just an idea in the mind of men in white coats. Science is repeatable and testable. If someone thinks that scientist X has lied or screwed up, you can repeat their test and see if you get the same results. This is how science advances. Sure, it may just be all luck or some external "being" making up the results as he goes along, but since there is no evidence of such a being, we are left with the conclusion that this is how nature operates. Even if the being did exist, and controlled everything, our results still show the same thing, and "nature" would simply be whatever the being chose, even though it has been consistent so far.

I fail to see the difference between that and showing us the nature of...well...nature, given that we have nothing to compare it to?
I think Gods existance is demonstrated through personal experience. I pray and answer, healings, that when you put faith in God it works out, etc. My experience wont convince you but that is why its a personal relationship.
