(February 10, 2013 at 1:02 pm)The Germans are coming Wrote: I could buy some carrots, potatoes, onions, beef, rice and other at between 5-10 euros.
With it I can cook enought meals for 2-3 days.
According to latest exchange figures, 5-10 euros is roughly equivalent to between £4.23 and £8.49 ($6.68 and $13.36 US). Taking Fr00d's figure of 79p (0.93 euro, $1.25 US) as a base, I could buy between 5 and 10 (nearly 11) days worth of meals. That's not even factoring in such things as BOGOFF deals (Buy One Get One For Free) or similar multipurchase discounts, which could also apply to the fresh article of course. Then comes the question of how long the food can be stored without spoiling, time and energy spent cooking etc. People in a similar situation to myself simply cannot afford to buy fresh food in bulk all the time. Also, since I have to purchase electricity in the form of pay-as-you-go credit on an electronic key, there are occasions when I simply don't have the power to run my stove for any length of time.
None of this means that I cannot cook, or that I prefer not to cook. It's just that all too often I have the choice either to opt for convenience or takeaway food, or go without.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
