Belief in biblical inerrancy isn't required to be Christian, its a relationship with God. However, if you think God is a quality of which many individuals have and humans can grow into, I think you're doing it wrong and your relationship isn't with any sort of existing God. If you pray to Mary thanking her for your salvation, you're probably doing it wrong (not many Catholics do this, but you never know). There are probably other things that are obvious, but I'm hungry.
