If the map is 50 years old, it is a predication based upon the assumption of the accuracy of the map - or the ability of the mapmakers. It's negation or confirmation would tell us something about one or the other. To be honest, the map could be 50 milliseconds old, the prediction of a future event is where I will end up if a and b
This really isn't that confusing. The date that the map was made has very little bearing on whatever future prediction I might make to test the map. You can predict the discovery of evidence of past events in precisely the same manner.
If x happened as y said then we would expect to find supporting evidence z (much stronger if we don't already have it, btw)- as has already been explained.
