Are you confusing them with moel's who are the guys that perform the circumcisions?
Kohanim means priests. They are patrilineally direct descendants of Aaron. Assuming a rebuilt temple, a male 'Cohen' would resume temple sacrifices and offerings, and hence...get bloody.
I'm only a quarter Jewish, but I think I'm at least half right about the above...maybe more.
OK - gotcha - although one would like to think that there's more to the stopping of sacrifices and offerings than merely the lack of a temple.
Hopefully Judaism has moved passed that.

Whilst certainly true the blood fear also appears in the dietary rules so there is more to it than fear of women.
