Many are the conventional, legal bombs that have killed thousands with a strike. Some have killed upwards of a hundred thousand with one strike.
What difference does it make if you use a chemical strike that kills 1400 at a strike versus an artillery barrage or a bomb bay full of cluster bombs that kills the same number in one strike?
The zeal for baning chemical weapons is essential a zeal by powers with bombers and many bomb bays full of clusterbombs to ban weapons which may seem to give its opponent means to reduce the value of that conventional superiority. It is pitiful that you can see this as the the only significant reason behind the zeal for it.
Our means to bash you - legal. Your means to exact a price for the bashing - illegal. Clear?

I thought you guys knew that.
It's not even about oil that much anymore. The US is scheduled to become a net oil exporter within 7 years.
It's really about a blundering combination of 1. a unreflected habit of simple minded idealism and sloganeering, coupled with 2. susceptibility to domestic pressure groups answering to independent ambitions of a particular foreign power, combined with 3. having too much surplus power and therefore not enough incentive truly reflect upon our own core interests and use our power most economically towards furthering our own core interests.
