As we gain more knowledge about the world around us; through psychology, definitions, scientific discoveries, philosophy,etc , we need to reassess our interpreations of the scripture using deductive reasoning.

That's how I would have phrsed it, to each their own

And when science outright disproves a claim made in the bible, we say it was a metaphor to save face.
